23/ Jordan's gold, jewelry sector provides 10,000 jobs-JCI
Amman, September 9 (Petra) - The Kingdom's gold and jewelry sector operates approximately 250 factories and workshops specializing in goldsmithing and jewelry design, providing approximately 10,000 job opportunities, statistical data from the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) showed. According to data obtained by "Petra," men constitute 83% of workers in the gold sector, compared to 17% for women, while the percentage of local workers approximately stands at 86%. The data noted the sector provides "high manufacturing quality" supported by the latest international technologies, and offers products with "high added value" that have an authentic Jordanian identity and meet international specifications, enabling it to compete in global markets. The data revealed exports reached their peak in 2023, reaching JD825 million. The United States accounted for the largest share of the Kingdom's exports of gold and jewelry products in recent years at 86%, making it Jordan's primary export market. Exports to Switzerland and UAE followed at 10% and 4%, respectively, then came Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Austria, Lebanon, the United Kingdom, and Germany. The JCI figures indicated that the value of the Kingdom's untapped export opportunities for jewelry and precious metals, according to the International Trade Center's data on Jordan's untapped export opportunities, amounts to approximately $451 million for various markets. These opportunities are distributed among the UAE markets at a value of $106 million, the United States at $89 million, Switzerland at $37 million, Saudi Arabia at $21 million, and Hong Kong at $20 million. //Petra// AG
