32/ football team coach stresses importance of Dominican Republic friendly

Amman, Sept 8 (Petra) – The national football team coach Jamal Salami on Monday underlined the importance of Tuesday’s friendly match against the Dominican Republic at Amman International Stadium, part of preparations for the FIFA Arab Cup in Qatar this December and the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking at a press conference at Al-Hussein Youth City’s media center, Salami said the match is valuable despite limited information about the Dominican side. He noted that Jordan had played Russia last Thursday in a goalless draw and will now face the Dominicans as part of a wider preparation plan.

Salami revealed he would give opportunities to players who have not featured in recent games, taking advantage of the strong bench available. He said his target is to achieve a new milestone in the Arab Cup and secure positive results, stressing that the players selected for the tournament are among the best Jordanian talents.

Defender Yazan Al-Arab said the squad is fully ready for the fixture, adding that the coaching staff has worked over the past two days to avoid mistakes made against Russia. He stressed the goal is to reach peak readiness ahead of the World Cup.

Al-Arab noted that the team’s performance against Russia reflected its seriousness and preparation, though he acknowledged missed chances that could have led to a victory.
