28/ House speaker, Greek ambassador talk cooperation

Amman, September 8 (Petra) – Speaker of the Lower House Ahmad Safadi met with Greek Ambassador to Jordan Irini Riga on Monday at the House of Representatives to discuss enhancing cooperation, especially parliamentary.

Safadi and Riga discussed the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem in preserving the identity of the holy city.

Safadi highlighted the need to strengthen and expand joint relations to benefit both Jordanians and Greeks, especially in trade, culture, tourism and education.

He expressed hope for increasing scholarship opportunities for students from both countries and stressed Jordan's eagerness to deepen cooperation with the Greek Parliament across various sectors.

Addressing the current regional challenges, Safadi called for unity to end the Israeli war in Gaza, intensify international efforts to deliver urgent humanitarian aid and reject any plans to occupy Gaza or escalate tensions in the occupied West Bank.

He said Jordan is committed to pursuing a peaceful resolution based on the two-state solution.

Riga, in turn, expressed her country's appreciation for Jordan's role in promoting regional security and stability. She praised His Majesty King Abdullah II's moderate stance, which advocates for peace, dialogue and conflict resolution.

She commended the Hashemite Custodianship of Jerusalem's holy sites and reiterated Greece's call for an immediate end to the Israeli war on Gaza, urging a peaceful path toward a two-state solution.

She acknowledged Jordan's relief efforts in Gaza and Greece's contribution in coordination with Jordanian authorities.

Looking ahead, Riga said Greece is committed to enhancing cooperation with Jordan and mentioned an upcoming conference of Greek associations in Amman aimed at exploring opportunities for educational collaboration and attracting Jordanian students.
