Amman, Sept 7 (Petra) – The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) reported on Sunday disruptions in submarine cables in the Red Sea, which have caused slowdowns and increased response times in several countries across the region. Some cloud service providers have rerouted traffic to maintain continuity of services.

The TRC said that no nationwide internet outages have been recorded in Jordan, although users may experience minor delays when accessing international content.

The commission added that it is working with licensed operators to improve routing paths, increase local traffic exchange, and rely on alternative land and sea routes via the Mediterranean to mitigate the impact, while continuously monitoring quality indicators and providing updates to the public as needed.

Repairing submarine cables is a complex process that may take weeks, depending on the availability of ships and conditions in the Red Sea, the TRC noted.

Jordan benefits from diversified international routes, including submarine cables connected to the city of Aqaba and the Mediterranean infrastructure, as well as land routes through Saudi Arabia to the Gulf, in addition to planned new interconnections aimed at strengthening connectivity between Europe and Asia. This diversity helps limit the direct impact on the kingdom during regional rerouting.
