21/ Jordan, Palestine's ministers of culture talk historical ties, cooperation
Amman, September 7 (Petra) – Minister of Culture Mustafa Rawashdeh and Palestinian Minister of Culture Imad Hamdan discussed the historical and cultural ties between Jordan and Palestine in a meeting held Sunday at the Royal Cultural Center in Amman. Rawashdeh praised His Majesty King Abdullah II’s efforts in defending the Palestinian cause and trying to end the Israeli war on Gaza. He said that Jordan is ready to support Palestinian cultural resilience and preserve its heritage against Israeli occupation authorities' attempts to erase it. Hamdan, in turn, commended His Majesty’s role in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites, highlighting the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship in Jerusalem. He praised Jordan's relief efforts in Gaza and positions in support of Palestine. He pointed to the cultural and humanitarian impact of the Israeli blockade and war, describing it as human and cultural genocide and noted that the Israeli war on Gaza displaced intellectuals and artists. He said the ministry is building a database to preserve Palestinian culture despite financial and logistical challenges. Hamdan proposed holding an Arab and international cultural conference in Amman to discuss Palestine and Gaza from a cultural perspective. For his part, Ministry Secretary-General Nidal Ayasrah referred to cooperation in training Palestinians on archiving and documentation at the Jordanian National Library. He highlighted the library’s records on Jordanian-Palestinian ties, Jordan's restoration of Al-Aqsa Mosque and joint efforts to safeguard Palestinian heritage. //Petra// NQ
