15/ Social Development Minister outlines women's empowerment initiatives
Amman, Sept 6 (Petra) -- Minister of Social Development, Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women's Empowerment Chair, Wafa Bani Mustafa, presented key priorities and initiatives for women's empowerment under the executive program (2026-2029) during a working session to draw up the second executive program of the Economic Modernization Vision. She outlined the strategic objectives of the sector, including increasing women's economic participation as a basis to achieving economic growth and unleashing women's potential, especially young women and university graduates. These also include improving the quality of life and standard of living for women, families, and society, raising Jordan's ranking in global indicators, and devising a national index to monitor women's economic participation across targeted sectors, institutions, and companies. Mustafa pointed to key enablers and achievements implemented in the previous phase, including the launch of the Women's Empowerment Strategy within the Economic Modernization Vision and studies on the status of women in various sectors, the establishment of business incubators, training of 2,881 women, and establishment of 1,296 home nurseries for 51,084 children that created 5,184 job opportunities. Other achievements also included approval of the flexible work system, formation of a legal team to review legislation from a women's empowerment perspective, such as labor, social security, and company laws, amendment of the 2023 Nursery Regulations to encourage their establishment in remote areas, integration of children with disabilities, easing home nursery registration procedures, providing a safe environment for children of working women, and providing support for the establishment of 100 online stores, with women accounting for 67 percent of these. The session, attended by experts and representatives of the public and private sectors, tackled key features of the Future Program for Women's Empowerment, including projects to bridge the gender wage gap, achieve financial inclusion for women, and create diverse financing, training, and marketing programs to enhance women's economic participation. //Petra//SS
