14/ Arab Parliament condemns Israeli PM's remarks on displacement of Palestinians

Cairo, Sept 6 (Petra) – The Arab Parliament Saturday strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks calling for the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing.

The remarks were part of a policy of ethnic cleansing and forced displacement that has been pursued by the occupation authority for decades, it said.

The Arab Parliament considers these "false and unacceptable calls as a blatant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, the Geneva Conventions, and relevant UN resolutions," Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi said in a statement.

These are a gross infringement on the right of the Palestinian people to remain on their land and set up their independent and sovereign state, and they represent a direct threat to international peace and security.

Forced displacement is a fully-fledged war crime that does not drop with time, he stressed, adding that the Palestinian people are attached to their land, and they will not accept any suspicious schemes to uproot them from their country.

Al-Yamahi reiterated the Arab Parliament's categorical rejection of all displacement attempts by the occupation authority in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, or any part of the occupied Palestinian territory, or any attempt to liquidate the Palestinian cause.

He called on the international community, the Security Council, and the United Nations to take their legal, moral, and humanitarian responsibility to halt such serious violations, put an end to the racist incitement by Israeli leaders, provide the necessary international protection for the Palestinians and enable them to exercise their right to self-determination and establishment of their independent, sovereign state, as the only way to achieve comprehensive and just peace that guarantees regional security and stability.
