10/ Senate Delegation Attends Japanese Parliamentary Session

Amman, Nov. 27 (Petra) -- Senate President Faisal Fayez and his accompanying delegation attended part of a Japanese parliamentary session held to discuss various issues.

The visit comes in response to an official invitation from Masakazu Sekiguchi, President of Japan’s House of Councillors. The delegation includes Senators Ali Ayed, Khawla Armouti, Michel Nazzal, and Khalil Haj Tawfiq.

According to a Senate statement issued Thursday, the delegation, accompanied by Jordan’s Ambassador to Tokyo Nasser Shraideh, received a warm welcome expressed by members of the Japanese Parliament and Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during the session.

During the visit, Fayez held talks with the heads of Japan’s Houses of Councillors and Representatives, along with senior officials, focusing on enhancing Jordanian-Japanese cooperation in parliamentary, political, and economic fields, as well as discussing regional developments and His Majesty King Abdullah II’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

He highlighted the recent visits of His Majesty the King and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein, underscoring Jordan’s commitment to strengthening and expanding bilateral relations with Japan across multiple domains.

Fayez outlined the economic and security challenges facing Jordan due to regional conflicts, the burden of hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees, and the ongoing Israeli occupation policies. He expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support for Jordan’s development and reform programs, as well as its assistance in addressing the consequences of the refugee crisis amid declining international aid.

He praised the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), describing its projects in Jordan as a model for successful development and economic partnership.

Fayez invited the Japanese side to increase its assistance to Jordan by expanding trade exchange, establishing joint investments, and activating bilateral agreements while removing obstacles that hinder their implementation.

He also called on Japanese investors and business leaders to explore opportunities in Jordan, emphasizing the Kingdom’s security, stability, attractive investment climate, and investor-protection legislation.

Fayez will continue his official visit with meetings involving senior Japanese officials to advance Jordanian-Japanese relations, particularly in parliamentary and economic fields, and to increase Japanese investments in Jordan across various sectors.
