30/ Senate President, Speaker of Japanese House of Representatives hold talks in Tokyo
Amman, Nov. 26 (Petra) Senate President Faisal Al-Fayez held talks with Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, Fukushiro Nukaga, during an official visit to Japan made at the invitation of Masakazu Sekiguchi, President of the House of Councillors. The meeting was attended by Senators Ali Al-Ayed, Khawla Al-Armouti, Michel Nazzal, and Khalil Al-Haj Toufiq, along with Jordan’s Ambassador to Japan Nasser Al-Shraideh, according to a statement by the Senate. Al-Fayez said that while Jordan rejects Israel’s ongoing aggressive and expansionist policies, it welcomes the signing of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza as a significant step toward security and stability in the Middle East and toward ending the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. He called on the international community to take concrete measures compelling Israel to fully implement the terms of the ceasefire and to halt its attacks in the West Bank, as well as its violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. Al-Fayez stressed that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, consistently works to advance a just and comprehensive peace, based on the belief that nations cannot live in stability while conflicts continue to claim lives and fuel suffering. He reiterated the King’s message that there can be no regional stability or security for Israel without a return to peace negotiations and that the only viable path is a two-state solution establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Highlighting the depth of Jordan–Japan relations, Al-Fayez noted the strong ties between the Hashemite and Imperial families, reflecting mutual respect and shared interests. He said his visit aims to advance parliamentary cooperation and build on long-standing ties across political, economic, and cultural fields. He underscored the importance of both the Senate and Japan’s House of Councillors in bolstering the strategic partnership and coordinating efforts to restore regional security. Al-Fayez outlined Jordan’s political and security strength while noting the economic pressures driven by regional turmoil, Israel’s policies, and the burden of hosting around 1.3 million Syrian refugees at a time when international support has declined. He stressed that Jordan has become the world’s largest host of refugees relative to its population. He called for expanded economic cooperation and increased Japanese investment in Jordan, citing long-standing Japanese support for the Kingdom, including its contribution to the Jordan Response Plan for the Syrian crisis. For his part, Nukaga commended Jordan’s role in advancing regional security and the effective efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah II to promote a just and comprehensive peace. He emphasized Japan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation across all sectors. He stressed the importance of establishing joint committees to improve the business environment, encourage investment, and support Japanese companies operating in Jordan. Separately, Al-Fayez and his delegation met with the Japan–Jordan Parliamentary Friendship Committee, the Deputy Minister of Economy, the Economic and Industry Committee of the House of Councillors, and the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In the meetings, Al-Fayez underscored the importance of parliamentary friendship committees in enhancing bilateral ties and removing obstacles to cooperation. He called for increased economic support to help Jordan continue its stabilizing regional role and to cope with the challenges it faces. He also urged greater trade and investment flows, particularly in tourism, transport, energy, water, and mining. Al-Fayez expressed appreciation for Japan’s support for the two-state solution and for the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites. He reaffirmed Jordan’s categorical rejection of any proposals targeting its national constants or seeking the forced displacement of Palestinians, describing such actions as violations of international law and acts that would fuel further conflict. He also presented Jordan’s comprehensive reform drive political, economic, and administrative which aims to strengthen political life, empower youth and women, advance economic development, and improve public services. Al-Fayez highlighted Jordan’s strategic location, investment-friendly legislation, and free trade agreements with major global blocs, offering significant advantages for Japanese companies, including opportunities tied to future reconstruction in Syria and Gaza. He proposed the creation of a Jordan–Japan Business Council composed of leading companies from both countries, as well as a joint digital business platform and an annual business forum to support investment and innovation, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. Japanese officials praised the advanced level of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic cooperation and investment, commending Jordan’s stabilizing regional role under the King’s leadership. //Petra// AF
