27/ Jordan Economic Forum: 2026 budget reflects clear direction toward greater self-reliance

Amman, Nov. 26 (Petra) The Jordan Economic Forum has issued a policy paper titled "The General Budget Law for Fiscal Year 2026: An Analysis of Fiscal Directions and Sustainability Strategies," outlining a broad set of recommendations aimed at strengthening public-finance management and improving the sustainability of spending and revenues.

According to the forum’s statement, the paper notes that the general budget is one of the most important tools governments rely on to steer the economy and maintain financial stability. It translates national priorities into figures and policies, defines the size of resources and how they are allocated, and directly influences economic growth, the quality of public services, the efficiency of public-fund management, and the state’s capacity to absorb shocks.

The forum said the 2026 budget comes at a national moment in which Jordan is working to balance the requirements of financial stability with the need to spur growth, within the framework of the Economic Modernization Vision and the Public-Sector Modernization Roadmap. The draft budget, it added, reflects a clear direction toward greater self-reliance by raising domestic revenues to cover current expenditures, reducing the deficit, and gradually controlling public debt.
