39/ Digital Economy Ministry signs MoU to establish gaming design lab at Yarmouk University
Amman, Nov. 25 (Petra) The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and Yarmouk University signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish an advanced laboratory for electronic game design and development on campus. According to a ministry statement issued Tuesday, the MoU falls within the implementation of the National Strategy for Games and E-Sports (2023–2027), in line with the Economic Modernization Vision and the ministry’s efforts to support digital skills and creative industries. The memorandum, signed by Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat and Yarmouk University President Malek Al-Sharairi, aims to provide an integrated educational and training environment for students, helping sharpen their practical skills and enhancing alignment between academic specializations and labor-market needs in the digital sector. Under the agreement, the ministry will equip the lab with the necessary tools and technologies for electronic game design and development and will cooperate with the university to organize technical workshops and specialized events. The initiative comes as the university recently launched a new major in "Digital Reality and Game Development," reflecting its academic and logistical readiness to support this rapidly growing field. Smeirat said the agreement is part of the ministry’s efforts to expand partnerships with Jordanian universities to empower youth and enhance their opportunities in the digital economy. He added that electronic game development has become a promising sector offering real creative opportunities that support the national economy. For his part, Al-Sharairi said Yarmouk University was among the first to introduce academic programs aligned with global technological advancements. He noted that establishing the new lab represents a qualitative addition to the university’s academic and research mission and strengthens its ability to graduate competitive talent for digital markets. //Petra// AF
