12/ Aqaba Ports Deploys World-Class Automated Grain Unloaders to Boost Throughput

Aqaba, Nov. 25 (Petra) - Aqaba Ports Company has brought two state-of-the-art automated grain unloaders into trial operations at the port, marking a historic first for Jordanian maritime infrastructure, Director General Mahmoud Khalifat announced. The units were procured at a total investment of JD 5.2 million.

"These unloaders represent an unprecedented enhancement in port operations," Khalifat said, highlighting that each unit has a handling capacity of 600 metric tons per hour, significantly increasing berth productivity, operational efficiency, and the port’s competitiveness in the regional shipping market.

The unloaders are designed to service Capesize and Panamax vessels of up to 80,000 tons, operating with fully automated controls, minimizing manual intervention. They feature a horizontal outreach of 30 meters, integrated high-resolution monitoring cameras covering all operational zones, and dedicated cranes for maintenance and shipboard equipment handling.

The introduction of these advanced bulk-handling systems is expected to reduce vessel turnaround times, optimize cargo discharge operations, attract additional international shipping lines, and deliver enhanced service reliability to port clients.

The deployment underscores Aqaba Ports’ commitment to modernizing infrastructure, advancing automation, and positioning Jordan as a competitive regional logistics hub.
