36/ Jordan, UN agencies discuss expanding joint youth cooperation

Amman, Nov 23 (Petra) – Minister of Youth Raed Adwan on Sunday discussed with UN Resident Coordinator Sheri Ritsema-Anderson and representatives of UN agencies in Jordan ways to strengthen joint youth cooperation.

Adwan reaffirmed the ministry’s strategic partnership with UN agencies in implementing programs stemming from the pillars of the National Youth Strategy 2019–2025, noting that the ministry is preparing to carry out a national youth survey that will provide a database for drafting the National Youth Strategy for 2026–2030.

He said the ministry places priority on developing youth centers by improving youth programs, upgrading infrastructure and empowering youth workers in order to raise youth participation in centers and meet their training needs. He added that the ministry’s priorities also include advancing the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on youth, peace, and security and promoting a culture of volunteerism.

For her part, Ritsema-Anderson said UN agencies are keen to coordinate efforts to support the implementation of the National Youth Strategy and national youth priorities, particularly in volunteerism, peace and security, and the empowerment of young women. She said supporting the strategy reflects the UN agencies’ commitment to enabling young people and enhancing their participation, praising the government’s ambition in building and executing the strategy.

UN agency representatives reviewed youth cooperation mechanisms and support for the ministry’s plans and priorities, particularly in implementing the National Youth Strategy in order to advance national goals and strengthen meaningful youth participation across sectors.

The meeting was attended by UNICEF Country Representative Marc Rubin; UNFPA Country Representative Himyar Abdulmagni; ILO Representative Amal Mowafy; UNDP Resident Representative Randa Aboul-Hosn; and UNRWA Deputy Director of Operations Gulnora Burkhanova.
