11/ Senate unanimously endorses National Military Service Bill
Amman, Nov. 23 (Petra) – The Senate unanimously approved the draft amendment to the National Service and Reserve Service Law of 2025, as sent from the Lower House of Representatives. The endorsement came during a legislative session held Sunday, chaired by Senate President Faisal Fayez, and attended by Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan and the Cabinet memvers. Last Thursday, the Senate's Legal Committee, chaired by Ahmed Tbeishat, had approved the conscription bill without changes as submitted by the Lower House. The approval of the draft law completes the legislative procedures for reactivating the National Service program, which is scheduled to begin at the start of next February. This process follows the announcement by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II of the decision to reinstate National Service program last August, during his meeting with young men and women from northern Irbid Governorate. As for its rationale, the program aims to regulate the provisions related to certain new legal requirements for activating and implementing this 3-month military conscription. //Petra// AG
