40/ Jordan seeks to empower aid beneficiaries to enter labor market-Bani Mustafa

Amman, May 28 (Petra) - Minister of Social Development, Wafa Bani Mustafa, on Wednesday took part in the closing ceremony of "Towards a Comprehensive National Social Protection System" project, implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and UNICEF, with support from the European Union.

In her speech, Bani Mustafa noted the project's importance in building a "sustainable" social protection system by strengthening policies designed to develop its mechanisms and provide decent job opportunities for target groups.

The minister added that this effort aligns with the axes of the National Social Protection Strategy for 2025–2033, aimed to transition target groups fromaid dependence to empowerment stage, provide decent jobs to secure fair social benefits, and handle any future challenges, mainly response and recovery phases.

Work, she stated, is underway to establish a blanket coordination mechanism for shock-based response, as part of the implementation of the National Social Protection Strategy.

Additionally, she said an early social warning system will be established, in cooperation with the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM).

The minister also highlighted climate change challenges, which directly impact the most vulnerable groups and societies as a whole.

As for its "important" outcomes, she said the project sought to enhance "integrated" coordination and planning, monitor government efforts in social protection and employment sector, and strengthen national systems to improve access to the labor market and social protection programs.

The minister said the project is "crucial" to provide decent employment opportunities by launching skill-driven training to qualify beneficiaries to enter the labor market.

The project has achieved "outstanding" results that can be promoted to launch such projects and programs in the future, she pointed out.
