34/ PDTRA chief, US delegation talk tourist cooperation, projects

Petra, May 28 (Petra) - Chairman of Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), Dr. Fares Breizat, received a delegation from the US Congress, including members of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The discussions aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and explore cooperation opportunities in the fields of tourism, culture, and local community development.

Talking at the meeting, Breizat highlighted PDTRA's efforts to establish "effective" partnerships with the U.S. nature reserves and enhance cooperation with American universities and institutions with shared interests, particularly in the areas of scientific research, protection of World Heritage sites, and sustainable tourist development.

Breizat praised the delegation's visit as an "important" step to strengthen joint cooperation, build bridges of "constructive" partnerships, and support efforts to protect the world heritage of Petra.

According to a PDTRA statement, the two sides went over ways to support projects currently implemented in Petra to enhance tourist infrastructure and improve visitor experiences, while preserving the city's cultural and environmental identity.

Touring the city's Nabateen key landmarks, the delegation learned about efforts to preserve archaeological sites, develop tourist infrastructure, and empower local communities.
