38/ Jordan, Lebanon discuss agricultural, economic cooperation
Amman, May 7 (Petra) – Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, and President of the President of the Lebanese Economic, Social and Environmental Council (ESEC), Charles Arbid, discussed issues of mutual interest in the agricultural and economic fields, as well as ways to enhance cooperation and exchange of mutual expertise. During a meeting with Arbid at the ministry's headquarters Wednesday, Hneifat stressed the "deep-rooted, brotherly" bilateral relations, noting importance of strengthening joint cooperation, especially in priority sectors, mainly agriculture. In presence of President of Jordan's Economic and Social Council, Dr. Musa Shteiwi, Hneifat reviewed conditions of the Kingdom's agricultural sector and its economic results, as recent studies have shown that the sector contributes approximately 23.5% of the national economy. Hneifat also referred to the sector's operational impact and added value, underlining role of agriculture in developing local communities and supporting youth and women in rural areas. //Petra// AG
