36/ Clinic for keratoconus treatment opens at Princess Basma Hospital
Irbid, May 7 (Petra) – Director of Princess Basma Teaching Hospital Ibrahim Shahabat Wednesday inaugurated a specialized clinic for keratoconus treatment in the hospital's outpatient ward. He commended "the great efforts" of the medical and technical staff, adding that the hospital continues to develop specialized services despite the pressure on various departments. Head of the ophthalmology department of the hospital Nisreen Makhdameh said the new clinic is a key milestone for the Princess Basma Hospital's ophthalmology department and the Ministry of Health as well, as it reduces transfers to external hospitals, saving patients time and effort. Cornea consultant Widad Dolat said corneal cross-linking is one of the latest internationally-approved medical methods to halt the progression of keratoconus, which can lead to vision loss if not treated early. The new clinic is a "qualitative" medical step to enhance treatment services to eye patients, said Faisal Abu Al-Shaer of the outpatient clinic. //Petra//SS
