3/ Aqaba Port Container Traffic Rises Sharply in First Third of 2025
Amman, May 7 (Petra) -- Container throughput at the Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) recorded a strong upswing in the first third of 2025, supported by rising trade flows and increased regional demand, according to new figures released by the Jordanian Logistics Association. Inbound container volumes reached 149,178 units between January and April, marking a 22.5% increase compared to 121,843 units during the same period in 2024. The figures, obtained by the Jordan News Agency (Petra), indicate a broad-based recovery in the port’s activity, which has been gaining momentum since the beginning of the year. Export activity also showed notable improvement. The number of outbound containers loaded with goods and shipped from Jordan through Aqaba reached 33,575 in the same period, up 12.8% from 29,764 in the corresponding months of last year. The monthly data for April reinforces the upward trend. Inbound volumes rose by 15.9% year-on-year to 39,557 containers, while outbound containers climbed 13.8% to 7,882 units. These gains come amid a broader uptick in regional cargo movements, particularly to markets such as Syria and the West Bank. Speaking to Petra, Nabil Al-Khatib, President of the Jordanian Logistics Association and First Vice President of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, said the increase in both imports and exports through Aqaba represents a significant shift compared to previous years. He emphasized that the port’s resurgence will likely have a multiplier effect across Jordan’s economy. "The rebound in container traffic at Aqaba is a key indicator of improved trade activity," Al-Khatib said. "It reflects stronger demand and growing confidence in Jordan’s logistics infrastructure, especially for goods destined to neighboring countries." He noted that the growth in container volumes will directly benefit the transport sector, which remains one of the main engines of the national economy. Higher traffic through the port is also expected to support services, logistics, and wholesale trade. Established in 2007, the Jordanian Logistics Association represents freight forwarding professionals and works to enhance competitiveness, regulatory standards, and industry protections. It is a member of FIATA, the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations, founded in 1926 in Vienna. //Petra// RZ
