23/ Senate Committee, Turkish Ambassador Discusses Bilateral Cooperation
Amman, May 7 (Petra) – The Senate's Jordanian-Turkish Friendship Committee, chaired by Senator Yassin Husban, on Wednesday held talks with Turkish Ambassador to Jordan Yakup Caymazoglu, to explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchange legislative and sectoral experiences. During the meeting, Husban affirmed the "strong and historic" bilateral relations, calling for deepening cooperation in various fields, particularly in legislative affairs and political party development. The lawmaker also noted relevance of Türkiye's experience, in light of Jordan’s recent political reforms and activation of political party engagement within the national modernization process. Highlighting "success" of Türkiye's health sector reform, he referred to creation of a unified system that integrates healthcare services and expands insurance coverage to all citizens. Husban said Jordan could benefit from this Turkish model in advancing its own healthcare strategy. Additionally, he praised Türkiye's supportive stance for the Palestinian cause and its continued backing of Jordan’s Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites, which reflects joint efforts to preserve their Arab identity and sanctity. Caymazoglu lauded the "longstanding" bilateral ties, expressing Ankara’s readiness to further enhance cooperation, particularly in trade, noting that bilateral trade volume has reached nearly USD1 billion. The diplomat stated the two countries share political stances on key issues, particularly the Palestinian cause and opposition to forced displacement. Caymazoglu also shared insights into Türkiye's legislative system, which includes a 600-member parliament representing 81 provinces and a multi-partisan landscape currently, comprising 17 political parties. Meanwhile, Senate committee members underscored the importance of learning from Türkiye's "successful" experiences in tourism, culture, and economic development fields. Both sides said parliamentary friendship committees promote cooperation, foster mutual understanding, and support regional stability and shared national interests, according to a Senate statement. //Petra// AO
