Amman, May 6 (Petra) – The Ministry of Agriculture is preparing to implement a regulated mechanism for counting sheep using electronic tagging, Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat said on Tuesday.

The minister explained that three committees will be formed from various governorates, each tasked with a specific phase of the livestock census. The process will rely on electronic chips and use feed supply records to verify herd origins and branches.

Speaking during a meeting with sheep breeders from across the country, Hneifat said the new system will incorporate non-traditional verification techniques aimed at eliminating fictitious ownership claims and ensuring government subsidies reach legitimate livestock holders.

He added that the campaign will be launched after the Eid Al-Adha holiday.

During the meeting, breeders raised concerns related to the sheep tagging process.
