Amman, May 6 (Petra) – Friedrich Merz was sworn in as Germany’s new Chancellor before the Bundestag on Tuesday, officially becoming the country’s 10th Chancellor, succeeding outgoing leader Olaf Scholz.

According to Deutsche Welle, Merz, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) leader, pledged in his oath to dedicate his efforts to the welfare of the German people and to protect them from harm.

He was elected by parliament earlier in a second round of voting, after which he proceeded to Bellevue Palace to formally receive his letter of appointment from President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
