34/ Army chief inspects new Border Security Directorate headquarters
Amman, May 6 (Petra) – Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Hunaiti visited the new headquarters of the Border Security Directorate in Tabarbour on Tuesday to assess operational readiness and ongoing preparations. During the visit, Maj. Gen. Hunaiti received a briefing from the Director of Border Security detailing the directorate’s core responsibilities, recent modernization efforts, and operational readiness to support Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) units with necessary equipment and devices. Accompanied by the Assistant for Operations and Training and other senior military officials, Hunaiti emphasized the General Command's commitment to equipping the directorate with the latest advanced technology to ensure effective performance of its defense and security tasks. He commended the personnel of the Border Security Directorate for their critical role in monitoring border zones and their efforts in thwarting infiltration and smuggling attempts. Hunaiti also reviewed the strategic plans being implemented by the directorate to maintain the security and stability of Jordan’s borders, highlighting the importance of coordination between military zones and national security agencies in addressing emerging threats. Since the beginning of this year, the directorate, in coordination with military zones and other security agencies, has foiled 61 infiltration and smuggling attempts, intercepted 204 drones attempting to illegally cross the border, and seized 37.3 kilograms of narcotics, over 3 million narcotic pills, and 8,834 hashish palms quantities with the potential to seriously impact Jordan’s national security. //Petra// AF
