33/ Jordan, Tunisia explore ways to boost economic ties
Amman, May 6 (Petra) – The Jordan Chamber of Commerce board met on Tuesday with Tunisian Ambassador to Jordan, Mufida Zaribi, to explore ways of strengthening bilateral economic relations and enhancing the role of the private sector in this regard. President of the Chamber, Senator Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq, stressed the importance of identifying investment opportunities to increase trade exchanges between the two countries. He noted that Jordan’s trade and services sectors are eager to expand cooperation with their Tunisian counterparts. According to a statement issued by the Chamber, Al-Haj Tawfiq called for intensified efforts and coordination to prioritize key sectors, form joint trade and investment partnerships, and build robust communication channels between the private sectors of both countries. He also highlighted the need to reactivate the Jordanian-Tunisian Business Council, originally established in 1996, and to organize a Jordanian trade delegation to Tunisia this year in coordination with the embassy., Key sectors identified for cooperation include apparel, food products, tourism, construction, and electrical appliances. Ambassador Zaribi welcomed the prospect of closer cooperation with the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, emphasizing the need to hold more frequent meetings and share information on available opportunities in both markets. She underscored the importance of organizing trade missions and joint forums to foster networking among business leaders from both countries. Members of the chamber’s board called for removing trade barriers and activating existing bilateral and multilateral agreements to strengthen economic integration. They pointed out that Tunisia’s wide network of trade agreements with African nations positions it as a strategic gateway for Jordan to access African markets, enhancing export prospects. The board also advocated for the establishment of a direct maritime route between the two countries to reduce trade costs and streamline logistics. Additionally, they proposed joint investment projects in tourism, agriculture, and food industries. Tourism cooperation was another key focus, with calls to increase the flow of tourists through improved infrastructure and the introduction of direct, low-cost flights to encourage mutual tourism. //Petra// AF
