30/ Petra's board approves new digital platform, discusses strategic plan
Amman, May 6 (Petra) – The Board of Directors of the Jordan News Agency (Petra), chaired by Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Momani, on Tuesday approved the agency’s new digital website project, developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy and a specialized news web development firm. The upgraded platform aims to enhance the user experience by presenting Petra’s diverse media content in a modern and accessible format, with improved browsing speed and ease of navigation. The initiative seeks to align Petra with rapid advancements in information technology and digital media while preserving its identity and role as a trusted and primary source of news. Speaking during the meeting, Momani underscored Petra’s vital role in Jordan’s national media landscape, highlighting its mission to deliver comprehensive coverage of national events and issues with professionalism and accuracy. The meeting was attended by the agency’s Director General and Deputy Chair Fayrouz Mubaideen, and board members Hani Badri, Rana Dababneh, Mohammad Maaqbeh, Awni Dawood, and Jamil Barmawi. Momani affirmed the government's commitment to supporting professional media as an essential partner in Jordan’s development, pledging full backing to enable the media to fulfill its responsibilities. The board also reviewed Petra’s draft strategic plan for 2026–2028, which outlines a renewed vision, mission, and core values aligned with advancements in modern communication. Mubaideen stated that the new strategy draws from the national media sector’s priorities and broader national development frameworks, aiming to reinforce Petra’s leadership in comprehensive, timely, and accurate news coverage, supported by measurable performance indicators. Board members proposed recommendations to refine various aspects of the strategic plan. Separately, the board approved a draft memorandum of understanding with the Royal Documentation Center to facilitate the exchange of expertise and provide access to Petra’s rich news archives. //Petra// AF
