Amman, May 6 (Petra) - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, said the government is "committed" to supporting stability of the Kingdom's energy supply by developing infrastructure and increasing generation efficiency, noting that "readiness of the electricity system is a national priority." During an inspection tour on Monday for the Central Electricity Generating Company (CEGCO)'s facilities in Aqaba, Kharabsheh stressed the importance of "continued effective" coordination among all relevant stakeholders in the sector to meet the "growing" electricity demand, especially during peak periods. The minister stated this effort also aims to secure needs of various sectors, in accordance with the "highest" standards of reliability, in line with the industry's "strategic" goals and vision. According to a ministry statement on Tuesday, the tour, which was aimed at assessing the company's readiness for the summer season, featured a visit to the Aqaba Thermal Power Station (ATPS), where the minister viewed the operational facilities and fuel storage and handling facilities. The minister was briefed by company officials on performance of the generation units, reliability and efficiency indicators, and future plans to improve technical and operational efficacy and ensure continuity and efficiency of the electricity supply. Meanwhile, Chairman of Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), Ziad Sa'aideh, said the commission "regularly" monitors the technical performance indicators of the generation plants to ensure their compliance with approved standards, which would enhance security of the electricity supply under various operating conditions. Sa'aideh added that joint coordination with the Ministry of Energy and electricity companies ensures the power grid's readiness and enhances capability to anticipate challenges and "effectively" deal with emergency situations and the increasing electricity loads. //Petra// AG
