35/ Jordanian Culture Minister Visits Ailing Actor Rabee Shihab, Praises His Artistic Legacy
Amman, May 4 (Petra) – Minister of Culture Mustafa Rawashdeh visited veteran Jordanian actor Rabee Shihab on Sunday to check on his health and extend well wishes for a full recovery, reaffirming Shihab’s enduring place in the hearts of Jordanian and Arab families through his distinguished work in drama and theater. According to a statement from the ministry, Rawashdeh emphasized that despite his illness and ongoing treatment, Shihab’s legacy lives on through the purposeful comedic roles he portrayed roles that earned widespread respect for their authentic depiction of human simplicity, youth aspirations, and diverse segments of society. His work spanned both village and city life, embodying the spirit of meaningful, socially reflective drama. Rawashdeh affirmed that Shihab, like all Jordanian artists and creatives, remains under the care and appreciation of the Jordanian state and its Hashemite leadership. He highlighted the royal honors bestowed upon the actor, including the Independence Medal of the Third Degree, presented by His Majesty King Abdullah II in recognition of Shihab’s contributions to drama and theater. He also noted the visit and continued concern shown by HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. Shihab’s family expressed their gratitude for the minister’s visit, which they said underscores the importance of supporting Jordanian artists throughout all stages of their lives. Shihab, born in 1965, suffered a stroke in 2003.
