28/ Jordan's Tourism Sector Soars with 19% Jump in Arrivals Boosting Q1 Revenues by 8.9%
Amman, May 4 (Petra) – Jordan's tourism industry has kicked off 2025 with impressive momentum, with revenue reaching JOD 1.217 billion in the first quarter an 8.9% jump from the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The growth was driven by a remarkable surge in visitors, with international arrivals climbing 19% year-on-year to 2.125 million during the January-April period. The sector's strong performance is reflected across key metrics: overnight visitors increased by 15.3% to 1.765 million, while same-day visitors jumped an impressive 41.6% to 360,000 compared to early 2024. April alone saw international arrivals soar by 36.7% to 617,000, suggesting the momentum will carry into the second quarter. Ministry officials credit the success to strategic initiatives that are paying off. Improved air connectivity including new direct routes and expanded budget airline services has made Jordan more accessible and affordable for travelers. Meanwhile, targeted marketing campaigns focused on promising international markets have helped showcase Jordan's diverse tourism offerings. Continued investment in tourism infrastructure has also enhanced the country's appeal, improving both competitiveness and value for visitors. The growth brings substantial benefits beyond tourism itself. The increased revenue strengthens Jordan's foreign currency reserves, while the expanding sector creates jobs and stimulates related industries. Looking ahead, the Ministry remains committed to its national tourism strategy focused on sustainable growth. The goal is to increase tourism's contribution to GDP, create more employment opportunities, and cement Jordan's status as a premier global destination by highlighting its rich historical, cultural, and natural heritage. The strong start to 2025 demonstrates the sector's resilience and progress toward these ambitious targets. //Petra// AA
