23/ VTC, Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia launch 'strategic' partnership

Amman, May 4 (Petra) - Director General of the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC), Dr. Ahmad Gharaibeh, received an official Canadian delegation, headed by Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour of New Brunswick, Jean-Claude D'Amours, and Deputy Minister of Labour of Nova Scotia, Dana MacKenzie, alongside several representatives from the public and private sectors.

According to a VTC statement issued on Sunday, the partnership comes within the framework of efforts to implement the executive program of the Economic Modernization Vision (2025-2028) and enhance international cooperation in the vocational training field.

The step is part of the third round of Jordan's public-private sector meetings in the two Canadian provinces, with the VTC and its local partners, Jadara University and Middle East Aviation Academy.

During the meeting, the two sides went over mechanisms for the VTC's potential cooperation with the Canadian provinces.

Meanwhile, the two Canadian provincial governments expressed "remarkable" interest in signing official agreements, aimed at implementing joint training programs, focused on empowering degree holder youth , raising their proficiency in the professional skills to enter Canadian labor market, and improve their English language proficiency in practical contexts.

The statement stated a group of priority sectors were identified that suffer from a severe shortage of qualified workers in Canada, mainly healthcare, renewable energy, electric and hybrid vehicle maintenance, tourism, hospitality, information technology, digital skills, and construction, as well as home and aircraft maintenance, and aviation sciences.

Speaking at the meeting, D'Amours noted the province of New Brunswick needs to fill over 133,000 job openings, while Nova Scotia announced more than 90,000 expected jobs by 2025, reflecting the "urgent" need to enhance joint cooperation and accelerate vocational training.

Both sides also noted importance of twinning a number of VTC-affiliated institutes with their Canadian counterparts, aimed to integrate Canadian curricula and training standards and launch "advanced" training opportunities in Canada for Jordanian students to own a "competitive" advantage in the global market.
