20/ Abu Hassan urges further economic cooperation with Algeria

Amman, May 4 (Petra) - Chairman of the Lower House Investment and Economy Committee, Khaled Abu Hassan, called for investing in the political momentum to transform agreements with Algeria into "feasible" projects that serve the two countries' economies.

Abu Hassan made the remarks in a meeting with Chairman of Industry Committee of the Algerian National People's Assembly, Mohamed Hanouni, Head of Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Fathi Jaghbir and other officials.

Abu Hassan said the meeting is an "advanced" step to strengthening Jordanian-Algerian economic relations, activate bilateral agreements, and open "new" cooperation horizons in the industry, trade, and investment fields.

Meanwhile, Jaghbir praised the "positive" atmosphere during the discussions, stressing that the current figures for the volume of Jordan-Algeria trade exchange fail to reflect the "depth of relations or the available potentials, which require intensive joint action."

To explore the mutual trade opportunities, Jaghbir noted the two sides mainly discussed steps to exchange business visits, extend an official invitation to the Algerian side to visit Jordan, and hold a joint economic conference with the engagement of the two countries' chambers of industry, parliaments, and governments.

Jaghbir indicated that the chamber, in cooperation with the House investment committee, will outline a "comprehensive" working paper that features economic cooperation priorities to be submitted to the government.

Jaghbir underlined the next phase will witness a "transition from understandings to projects to serve common interests."
