11/ FAO, SSV Sign Agreement To Boost Climate Change Adaptation In Jordan
Amman, March 27 (Petra) – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) signed an agreement on Thursday with the Sustainable Scientific Vision for Engineering and Environment (SSV) to enhance local community and civil society participation in climate change adaptation efforts across Madaba, Karak, Tafilah, and Ma’an. The agreement falls under the Building Resilience to Climate Change in Jordan through Improving Water Use Efficiency in the Agricultural Sector (BRCCJ) project, which integrates adaptation strategies into policies and fosters collaboration among public and private sector entities and civil society. The partnership will facilitate training for over 500 participants, including farmers, female-headed households, and municipal employees, through workshops aimed at increasing awareness of climate change adaptation techniques. FAO Representative in Jordan, Nabil Assaf, highlighted that the agreement strengthens community-driven responses to climate challenges, emphasizing the role of awareness and cooperation in ensuring sustainable food security and agricultural development. SSV Managing Director Eyad Batarseh expressed hope for a positive impact on local communities by promoting knowledge and training on environmental and agricultural best practices, underscoring the need for continued partnerships in this field. The $33.25 million BRCCJ project focuses on enhancing resilience to climate change in water-stressed regions, particularly in the Dead Sea Basin governorates. //Petra// AO
