Amman, March 26 (Petra) – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and with support from the Japanese government, concluded the "Emergency Response to Climate Change and Natural Resources Crises in Refugee Hotspots in Jordan" project in Amman on Wednesday.

The initiative, targeting Zaatari Camp and the governorates of Ajloun and Jerash, led to the restoration of 70 hectares of degraded forests, the planting of 58,000 seedlings, and the creation of 110 temporary green jobs, including 45 for women. Additionally, it provided training for community organizations on disaster preparedness and sustainable livelihoods, such as beekeeping.

Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture Mohammed Hiyari underscored the significance of adopting smart agricultural practices to mitigate climate change, highlighting the collaboration with Japan and FAO.

Japanese Ambassador Asari Hideki stressed that the project strengthens community resilience to environmental challenges, including forest fires and drought.

FAO Representative in Jordan Nabil Assaf noted that the initiative demonstrates the effectiveness of cooperation between governments, international organizations, and local communities. He reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to supporting Jordan in advancing environmental sustainability and enhancing livelihoods.
