22/ Jordan, Japan talk cultural cooperation
Amman, March 26 (Petra) – Minister of Culture, Mustafa Rawashdeh and Japanese Ambassador to Jordan, Asari Hideki, discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the cultural field. According to a ministry statement on Wednesday, Rawashdeh said Jordanian-Japanese relations date back for over seven decades, stressing the need to sign a mutual cultural agreement. The minister also praised Japan's position on Arab issues, mainly the Palestinian cause, commending its support for the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Arab Jerusalem, which His Majesty King Abdullah II is honored to assume. On future collaboration, the minister called for benefiting from Japan's expertise in the fields of arts training, and cultural management, as well as supporting related creative industries and strengthening the role of cultural centers in the Kingdom's governorates. Rawashdeh also called for organizing joint cultural days and weeks and encouraging direct translation without the need for a third language intermediary. Meanwhile, the Japanese envoy expressed appreciation for Jordan, its leadership and people, affirming his country's support for Arab issues, primarily the Palestinian cause and the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites. Welcoming efforts to sign a bilateral cultural agreement, he pointed to a number of cultural activities organized by the Japanese Embassy in Jordan. //Petra// AG
