18/ Jordan Expects Tourism Boost During Eid al-Fitr Holiday
Amman, March 25 (Petra) – Tourism sector stakeholders have highlighted Jordan as a top destination for Arab and foreign nationals residing in Gulf states and other countries during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Jordan’s security, natural diversity, historical landmarks, and hospitality make it a preferred choice for travelers. Industry representatives told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that a recent decision by the Ministry of Interior to allow foreign nationals residing in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and other nations to enter Jordan without prior approval is expected to significantly boost tourism. The measure facilitates tourist inflows, benefiting key destinations such as Petra, the Dead Sea, Wadi Rum, Jerash, and Aqaba while supporting hotels, restaurants, and local markets. As part of efforts to enhance tourism and attract visitors and investors, the Ministry of Interior announced that residents of the GCC, the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and all European countries can enter Jordan without prior approval, provided they hold a valid residency permit of at least four months in these countries. Ibrahim Kurdi, a tourism expert and Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality at the University of Jordan - Aqaba Branch, emphasized the importance of attracting foreign professionals working in the Gulf, as their purchasing power can contribute to increasing tourism revenues. He noted that this influx supports regional tourism and cultural exchange while strengthening Jordan’s position as a safe tourist destination. Kurdi suggested that promoting cultural activities, enhancing tourism services, and organizing events tailored to visitors’ interests would further attract tourists. Hussein Hilalat, Vice Chairman of the Jordan Hotels Association, stated that these visa facilitation measures would increase visitor numbers, particularly during peak seasons, leading to higher hotel occupancy rates. He stressed the need for a well-structured marketing strategy targeting travelers benefiting from the new regulations, including digital campaigns, partnerships with international travel agencies, and tourism packages covering accommodation and leisure activities. Nabih Riyal, a member of the Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association, underscored the significance of such initiatives in revitalizing Jordan’s tourism sector, particularly amid regional instability. He noted that foreign residents of the Gulf represent a key market due to their proximity to Jordan and familiarity with its tourism offerings. Riyal highlighted that the holiday season presents an opportunity to attract travelers seeking destinations that combine cultural diversity, advanced tourism services, and unique historical and natural attractions. //Petra// AO
