Petra, March 24 (Petra) – The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) signed a supplementary agreement on Monday with the Association of Camel Owners in Petra to enhance the use of electric vehicles as part of the "Petra by Night" program, one of the key tourism events that showcases the beauty of the ancient city by night. The new agreement stipulates the use of electric vehicles to transport visitors during the nightly event, offering an environmentally friendly mode of transportation that aligns with sustainable tourism standards while improving the quality of services provided to both local and international tourists. Shaker Al-Adwan, PDTRA Acting Chairman, stated that this initiative is part of the authority’s efforts to achieve sustainable development and enhance Petra's position as one of the world’s top tourist destinations. He emphasized that using electric vehicles in the "Petra by Night" program will help reduce environmental pollution and preserve the natural beauty of the archaeological site, while also providing transportation for visitors. Al-Adwan added that this initiative also aims to support local communities and enhance their role in the tourism sector, as the revenue generated from operating these vehicles will directly benefit the Association of Camel Owners, positively impacting the local community. He stressed that this step is a significant move toward empowering the local community economically and ensuring a fair distribution of the benefits from tourism activities. In turn, Mahdi Al-Shammasin, President of the Association of Camel Owners, praised the agreement, reaffirming the association’s commitment to supporting efforts to develop tourism services for the benefit of both visitors and the local community. //Petra// AF
