Amman, March 24 (Petra) – Germany on Monday condemned the Israeli cabinet's approval of a plan to separate 13 Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank from neighboring settlements that will ultimately be recognized as independent.

The security cabinet earlier endorsed a proposal by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to separate the neighborhoods and begin the process of recognizing them as independent settlements, as part of a plan to annex parts of the West Bank to Israeli sovereignty.

German's Foreign Ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer said Berlin rejects Israel's settlement policies as a violation of international law, adding that Israel's operations in the Gaza Strip would not lead to the release of Israeli captives and would cause a deterioration in the humanitarian situation.
