9/ PDTRA and Colosseum Forge Historic Twin-Site Agreement to Boost Cultural Tourism

Amman, March 23 (Petra) -- The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) and the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum in Rome have signed a twinning agreement, establishing a framework for cultural and tourism cooperation.

The agreement aims to promote collaboration between the two sites, both recognized as New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007, and to enhance cultural exchange and tourism promotion.

The agreement was signed by PDTRA Chairman Fares Breizat and Colosseum Director General Alfonsina Russo.

Breizat highlighted that the agreement aligns with PDTRA's efforts to develop Petra's tourism and cultural sectors, noting the potential for increased visibility through promotional materials at the Colosseum, which attracts approximately 14 million annual visitors.

Russo emphasized the Colosseum's commitment to international cultural cooperation and recognized Petra as a significant archaeological site.

The agreement focuses on areas of cooperation including joint workshops on archaeological preservation, cultural events, and information exchange. It also includes plans for reciprocal visitor programs and the exchange of media materials.

Both parties emphasized the agreement as a symbol of international collaboration, aimed at promoting the cultural heritage of Petra and the Colosseum as global tourist destinations.

Petra has previously signed twinning agreements with sites in Spain and Italy and intends to pursue further agreements with other New Seven Wonders of the World.
