21/ Social development minister, labour minister talk joint programmes
Amman, March 23 (Petra) -- Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa and Minister of Labour Khaled Bakar discussed on Sunday several joint programmes under the National Social Protection Strategy. Bani Mustafa underscored the royal directives focused on the economic empowerment of individuals and families benefiting from the National Aid Fund (NAF), in which Bani Mustafa is a Board Member, to promote reliance and active participation in the labour market. She highlighted the interconnection between two key initiatives: "Karama" (related to assistance) and "Forsa" (related to opportunities for decent jobs). The National Social Protection Strategy seeks to provide training and rehabilitation for families benefiting from NAF, encouraging their integration into the workforce. Emphasising the significance of collaboration, Bani Mustafa noted the National Employment Programme, implemented in partnership between NAF and the Ministry of Labour, which positively influences the economic conditions of vulnerable groups and fosters their economic independence, particularly for marginalised populations, including persons with disabilities. She discussed enhancing productive branches and expanding their reach to include more local community members who could benefit from the services and operational advantages the programmes provide. In turn, Bakar discussed helping impoverished families transition from dependency to productivity, aligning with shared goals to create more job opportunities for Jordanians. He outlined various programmes implemented by the Ministry of Labour that align with the National Social Protection Strategy, including productive branches and the National Employment Programme. He added that the initiatives aim to enhance the reliance on national labour while reducing dependence on expatriate workers, thereby contributing to stability in various economic sectors. Bakar noted ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Planning and the World Bank to extend the project and allocate additional support for beneficiaries of the National Employment Programme who are recipients of NAF support. They are expected to receive transport allowances for up to nine months and up to twelve months for individuals with disabilities. //Petra// AK
