29/ FM stresses need to consolidate ceasefire in Gaza
Amman, Mar. 20 (Petra)-- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, emphasized the importance of strengthening the ceasefire in Gaza right away and adhering to all terms of the prisoner exchange deal, which was made possible by American, Qatari, and Egyptian efforts. Safadi emphasized the need for the international community to act swiftly and forcefully to force Israel to stop its aggression and reopen the borders so that humanitarian supplies can reach all areas of the Gaza Strip during calls with a number of his counterparts, on Thursday. He issued a dire warning about what would happen if Israel resumed its onslaught against Gaza and blocked the flow of aid into the Strip. Safadi emphasized that the exchange agreement must be followed in order to establish a rapid and long-lasting truce. He denounced the use of food as a weapon and the return to war. Together with his peers, he evaluated regional and global efforts to bring about a truce and permit supplies to enter Gaza. Safadi also cautioned in his messages about the prospect of illegal Israeli actions in the West Bank that could worsen the situation. Safadi contacted Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel Aty, Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev, Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tanja Fajon, and the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria Beate Meinl-Reisinger. In his call with the Bulgarian Foreign Minister, Safadi condemned the killing of the Bulgarian citizen, who worked for the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), during Israel's attack on the organization's headquarters the day before yesterday, and expressed the Kingdom's condolences over his death. He stressed the need for Israel to adhere to its responsibilities as the occupying power and to ensure the security of international organizations and the protection of their personnel. Safadi congratulated Beate Meinl-Reisinger on taking on her new responsibilities and talked about measures to improve bilateral relationships with the newly appointed Austrian foreign minister. The two ministers expressed confidence in the two nations' strong alliance and eagerly anticipated furthering it together. Meinl-Reisinger and Safadi also talked about the situation in Syria.
