26/ JHCO reviews humanitarian aid efforts to Gaza
Amman, Mar. 20 (Petra) - Lower House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs Committee visited the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) headquarters on Thursday and commended its role in supporting people of the Gaza Strip. Committee Head MP Dina Basheer and committee members stressed the importance of the JHCO pivotal role in providing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and to Arab and friendly countries. Meanwhile, JHCO Secretary General, Hussein Sheibli, noted the organization has been working since the beginning of the Gaza crisis, in partnership with Jordanian Armed Forces and international organizations to carry out major relief operations. Sheibli added that 53 relief planes were sent to Arish and Rafah, including 13 directly dispatched from the JHCO and 40 others sent in cooperation with international organizations. The JHCO also carried out 139 airdrops, including 125 Jordanian airdrop operations and 266 others, in partnership with Arab and friendly countries. Regarding land aid, Shebli explained that 7,737 aid trucks were sent via the land bridge to Gaza, he pointed out. Out the total number, he said 3,875 trucks were sent in cooperation with the JAF and 3,862 others in cooperation with international organizations. Since the truce, he stated 2,638 trucks have been sent in 36 relief convoys, in addition 62,324 tents, 147,338 tarpaulins, and 30 caravans to support Gaza's displaced families. Sheibli noted that 1,364,684 people have benefited from this aid inside the Gaza Strip, in addition to support secured for 401 amputees as part of the prosthetic limb initiative. As part of its ongoing support, he said 102 aircraft were sent carrying medical, food, and health supplies, with a total weight of 105,517 tonnes. 148 agreements were also signed to ensure the continuity of humanitarian assistance. The commission affirmed its "continued commitment" to its humanitarian mission under His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives, in cooperation with various partners to ensure aid delivery to needy groups in Gaza and in Arab and friendly countries. //Petra// AG
