11/ Jordan pushes youth empowerment, engagement in political life: Odat
Amman, Mar. 20 (Petra) – Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Moneim Odat stressed the importance of empowering youth and enhancing their role in Jordan's political life and partisan work. Odat added that this process comes by providing the skills and training to the youth to become partners in assuming responsibility and decision-making, shaping the future, and formulating the state's policies by electing their representatives in the Kingdom's elected councils. Odat's remarks came during his inauguration of the Politics and Society Institute (PSI) program for its seventh cohort, which is implemented by the ministry in partnership with the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) since 2019, which focuses on developing youth skills in political and party activities. During the launching ceremony, Odat said Jordan's modernization project focuses on three political, economic, and administrative development tracks and "reflects the state's resilience and its ability to respond to challenges facing the Kingdom." Odat stated the Kingdom's modernization project provided "sufficient" guarantees for its continuity and sustainability, benefiting from the recent and past experiences. Meanwhile, Bashar Khatib, NIMD representative, noted importance of the institute's "strategic" partnership with the ministry, which has continued since 2019. To date, Khatib stated the NIMD has graduated over 300 young political activists, both party members and non-party beneficiaries, in Jordan.
