23/ Kharabsheh: Jordan signs grant agreement from Qatari side to supply Syria with gas

Amman, Mar. 13 (Petra)-- In an effort to provide gas to the Syrian Arab Republic via Jordanian territory, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) have signed a grant agreement, according to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh.

Kharabsheh clarified that the initiative, which intends to alleviate Syria's acute electricity generation shortage and enhance infrastructure performance, is entirely funded by the QFFD.

As part of the arrangement, liquefied gas (LNG) will be received, transferred, and pumped to the Syrian side via the Arab Gas Pipeline using a floating liquefaction vessel (FLO) in Aqaba. The Deir Ali facility in Syria will gradually increase its production capacity, with the initial phase aiming to increase energy generation by up to 400 megawatts per day.

Jordan's commitment to regional cooperation and to assisting Syria in overcoming its obstacles is reflected in this agreement, Kharabsheh said, underscoring the need of giving sister nations the assistance they require in order to achieve peace and sustainable development.
