14/ Salt Mayor, Turkish Ambassador Discuss Heritage, Infrastructure Cooperation

Salt, March 13 (Petra) – Mayor of Greater Salt Mohammad Hayari met with Turkish Ambassador to Jordan Yakup Caymazo?lu to explore opportunities for expanding partnerships in infrastructure, heritage, and cultural projects, as well as exchanging technical expertise to enhance service quality for citizens.

The discussions took place at the Project Development Unit (Beit Falah al-Hamad) in Salt, where Hayari underscored the strong ties between Jordan and Turkey, fostered by His Majesty King Abdullah II and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an. He highlighted the significance of reinforcing these relations through sustainable development initiatives that preserve the historical identity of Salt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Caymazo?lu commended Jordan’s commitment to safeguarding its cultural heritage and emphasized the importance of cooperation in restoring heritage sites and organizing joint cultural events. He noted the strategic partnership between Jordan and Turkey and the ongoing efforts to translate the two countries' leaderships' vision into tangible benefits for their people.

Director of the Project Development Unit, Ghaida Kharabsheh, provided an overview of Salt’s heritage and urban history, detailing municipal efforts to preserve its legacy, particularly following its designation as a UNESCO City of Tolerance and Urban Hospitality.
The ambassador toured the heritage house to observe the city's architectural distinctiveness.

This visit is part of broader cooperation between local administrations in both countries, with Turkey maintaining particular interest in Salt as the site of the Ottoman Martyrs' Monument, which is commemorated annually on March 18 as Turkish National Martyrs' Day.
