4/ General Union of Voluntary Societies Highlights Crucial Role of Drug Awareness
Amman, June 25 (Petra) -- On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the General Union of Voluntary Societies highlighted the vital role that charitable associations play in raising awareness about the dangers of drugs and protecting society from this serious threat. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Union's Administrative Board President, Amer Al-Khawalda, emphasized that these associations serve as the first line of defense in society due to their direct engagement with youth and families. He noted that sustained awareness is among the most effective methods for combating addiction and promoting preventive behaviors. Al-Khawalda pointed out that, being closest to local communities, these associations are well-positioned to deliver awareness messages effectively through educational lectures, field campaigns, and cooperation with schools, universities, and youth centers. He stressed that fighting drug abuse is not solely a security issue but a shared responsibility that requires active partnerships between official entities and civil society organizations. These partnerships aim to foster a culture of awareness and provide psychological and social support programs for recovered individuals to help reintegrate them into society. He called for increased support and training for associations to enable them to fulfill their preventive and awareness-raising roles effectively, reaffirming his ongoing commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at protecting future generations from the dangers of addiction. //Petra// WH
