Amman, June 25 (Petra) The Jordanian-Syrian Joint Technical Committee for Land Transport has reached an agreement to streamline the movement of passengers, goods and transit vehicles, including trucks and buses, between the two nations.

The accord aims to standardise procedures, promote reciprocity and ensure the smooth flow of transport, ultimately supporting the economic interests of both countries.

The agreement was announced during the committee's meeting in Amman on Wednesday, chaired by Fares Abu Dayyeh, Secretary-General of Jordan's Ministry of Transport, and Mohammad Rahal, Assistant Minister of Transport of Syria. Committee members from both sides participated in the discussions.

The meetings focused on cooperation in the land transport sector, aiming to facilitate trade and passenger movement while removing existing obstacles that hinder transport links between Jordan and Syria.

Opening the session, Abu Dayyeh highlighted the deep-rooted and solid relationship between Jordan and Syria. He urged building on the foundation by enhancing cooperation and coordination within transport, vital for supporting trade, the flow of goods and passenger mobility.

Abu Dayyeh reiterated Jordan's openness to collaboration with Syria for mutual benefit, viewing the joint committee's work as a significant step toward strengthening ties and overcoming barriers in land transport.

Rahal praised Jordan for its hospitality and underscored the role of Jordanian-Syrian cooperation in the transport sector as an "artery" that sustains various economic activities.

He said that Damascus seeks to leverag Jordan's expertise and experience to develop modern public transport projects, thanking Jordan for its willingness to offer comprehensive support.

Abu Dayyeh and Rahal signed the minutes of the committee’s discussions, which outlined several agreed-upon measures aimed at facilitating transport and trade between the two countries.
