46/ King's meeting with military retirees reaffirms commitment to bolstering national unity, supporting regional peace efforts
Amman, June 24 (Petra) – Amid growing tensions across the Middle East, His Majesty King Abdullah II has reiterated Jordan’s unwavering stance on the necessity of de-escalation as a fundamental step toward restoring regional security and stability. He also underscored the urgent need for intensified international efforts to halt the escalating violence in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem. His Majesty has consistently affirmed that military solutions have never resolved the region’s crises. Instead, he advocates political dialogue, respect for international legitimacy, and wise diplomacy as the genuine path to peace principles that form the core of Jordan’s long-standing vision, rooted in rejecting violence and championing just political solutions and non-interference in other countries’ affairs, according to military retirees. Military retirees told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the King’s meeting on Tuesday with their fellow retirees was deeply meaningful and nationally significant, conveying key messages that reaffirm Jordan’s foundational positions on security and politics. They highlighted the importance of political dialogue in safeguarding stability amid current regional and global challenges. They added that the King’s carefully chosen timing and venue reflected his leadership acumen, delivering his messages in the presence of those with whom he shares longstanding bonds people who, like him, remain steadfast in their commitment to national principles. Retired Major General Adnan Abdulhamid Al-Majali told Petra that the meeting held at Al Husseiniya Palace in the presence of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, heads of security agencies, and several retired officers carried profound national symbolism and clear messages reaffirming Jordan’s constants in politics, security, and national loyalty. During the meeting, the King stressed that safeguarding Jordan’s interests, ensuring its security and stability, and preserving citizens’ dignity will always remain top national priorities. Al-Majali said this was a clear message that Jordan, under Hashemite leadership, remains resilient against all challenges, unified internally, and confident in the capabilities of its people. King Abdullah also reaffirmed Jordan’s steadfast efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, working closely with allies and partners, Al-Majali added. The King emphasized that true security is achieved not only through strength but also through enlightened thinking, national responsibility, and the balanced vision that Jordan has long embraced. Al-Majali noted that the King’s remarks about the veterans reflected deep appreciation for their service and sacrifices. His Majesty expressed immense pride in Jordan’s retired servicemen and women, emphasizing their continued role in fostering national spirit and instilling values of loyalty and belonging in younger generations. He reiterated that Jordan’s position remains unchanged: military solutions do not resolve regional crises, while political dialogue, legitimacy, and diplomacy remain the only viable path to peace and stability. "On behalf of all who served under the banner of the Arab Army and security agencies, we affirm our absolute loyalty to the Hashemite leadership and our readiness to serve and defend the nation whenever needed," Al-Majali concluded. Retired Major General Hisham Ahmad Khreisat said the King’s meeting was a message to domestic, regional, and international audiences at a time when many remain silent as the region hears only the sound of rockets and gunfire. The King’s bold voice spoke truth in a period marked by immense political, economic, and humanitarian cost. Khreisat emphasized the deliberate timing and setting of the meeting, as the King addressed those closest to him those who share his values. His Majesty clearly and transparently reiterated that Jordan’s national interest lies in regional stability and reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause is the core of the conflict. He said the time has come to end the humanitarian suffering in Gaza. "Military retirees, like all Jordanians and their Hashemite leadership, carry a proud legacy and national mission. The army remains the emblem of our pride and dignity," Khreisat said. He ended by saluting His Majesty King Abdullah II and HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, emphasizing the strong bond between the Hashemite leadership and retired service members. He also sent greetings to the current members of the armed forces and border patrols, calling them the worthy heirs of a noble legacy. "The homeland is a trust passed from one generation to the next," he said. Retired Brigadier General Ayman Rousan stated that whenever a significant event unfolds locally, regionally, or internationally the King meets with military retirees to discuss critical issues and deliver important messages to Jordanians. He noted that King Abdullah draws strength from his people, from the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, from the security agencies, and from his retired comrades-in-arms. Rousan pointed to the recent dramatic developments following the 12-day war between Iran and Israel and Jordan’s balanced stance of neutrality. Jordan, he said, has no interest in the war but will inevitably feel its impact. Therefore, the Kingdom has chosen a cautious, hedging strategy to maintain relations with all parties, safeguard its sovereignty, and protect its citizens while ensuring that Jordanian soil does not become a battleground. In light of these mounting regional and global challenges, Rousan stressed the importance of the King’s domestic and international engagements, which reflect a policy grounded in dialogue and diplomacy as tools for conflict resolution and in national unity as the foundation of Jordan’s security and resilience. He emphasized that the King’s moderate voice and steadfast position convey the Arab world’s concerns to the international community while reminding Jordanians that internal cohesion remains the country’s strongest defense. In times of crisis, Rousan said, Jordan’s stability rests on this unity at home and credibility abroad twin pillars of the Kingdom’s strength and continued peace. //Petra// AF
