23/ Namrouqa commends 'distinguished' efforts of Jordanian female diplomats
Amman, June 24 (Petra) - Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nancy Namrouqa, greeted the Jordanian female diplomats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on International Day of Women in Diplomacy, which falls on June 24 annually. In a statement on the occasion, Namrouqa commended the "distinguished" efforts of Jordanian female diplomats, who contribute "effectively" to represent the Kingdom, serve its interests, and enhance its presence in international forums. The minister added that this group carries out diplomatic duties in a number of the Kingdom's "key" embassies and missions abroad, as well as in UN and international organizations and bodies, adding that some also hold "senior" positions within the ministry ranks. The minister highlighted the "crucial" role of women diplomats in serving citizens and providing the best services both inside and outside the Kingdom, affirming their "competency and ability," stemming from the role of Jordanian diplomacy, established by His Majesty King Abdullah II. This diplomacy, she noted, aims to strengthen Jordan's positions in international forums and defend interests of the Kingdom and its citizens abroad. Recalling the beginnings of Jordanian women in the diplomatic corps, she noted Loris Hallas was the first Jordanian female diplomat in 1969 and the first to be granted the title of "Ambassador," a testament to the early recognition of Jordanian women's diplomatic role, reflecting a "long" history of empowerment in diplomatic work. Namrouqa noted the ministry is "proud" to have 62 Jordanian female diplomats working in the Kingdom's missions abroad and at the ministry's headquarters. Out of the total figure, she indicated that there are 9 women ambassadors, 11 female ministers plenipotentiary, 7 female advisors, while 35 others occupy various diplomatic positions. //Petra// AG
