18/ JCLA, AND launch nationwide anti-drug campaign
Amman, June 24 (Petra) -Justice Center for Legal Aid (JCLA), in cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), launched the national awareness campaign, themed: "Remember Who You Are," as part of a joint effort to raise community-based awareness of the drugs-related health and legal risks. In a statement on Tuesday, the center said this effort aims to organize efforts of Jordan's official institutions and civil society organizations to curb this phenomenon and protect future generations from its consequences. Launched with support from the French Embassy for Development, the center added that the initiative comes with a "new" vision that seeks to spur people to protect themselves and their communities without fear. Under the four-week event, awareness messages and videos will be posted on social media to provide "reliable" information about the dangers of drugs and their health and psychological effects. The statement noted activities also feature field awareness sessions for youth and parents aimed to address early signs of drug abuse and ways to encourage open dialogue within the family. Engaging community members, medical and legal specialists and AND officers take part to discuss importance of reporting incidents and early intervention and highlight addiction-related health and legal consequences on individuals and society. To enhance efforts to facilitate access to information, the center announced an electronic drug awareness platform was launched to offer "reliable" information about health and psychological effects of drugs, legal aspects, and support and treatment options. The platform also seeks to facilitate access to official sources and encourage victims to seek help. //Petra// AG
