Amman, June 22 (Petra) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi on Sunday held a series of urgent consultations with regional and international counterparts to address the catastrophic consequences of the rapidly escalating tensions in the region.

Safadi discussed with his counterparts ongoing regional and international efforts aimed at halting the escalation and resuming negotiations as the only viable path to shielding the region from further conflict and warfare.

He stressed the urgent need to launch an effective regional and international initiative to prevent further deterioration, especially in the wake of a U.S. strike on Iranian nuclear facilities earlier today. He called for an immediate end to hostilities and the adoption of impactful political pathways to reach a comprehensive political agreement on Iran’s nuclear file and to address the root causes of the conflict in accordance with international law, UN resolutions, and respect for national sovereignty and legitimate rights.

During phone calls with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, and Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijj?rt?, Safadi reaffirmed Jordan’s rejection of any violations of international law, the UN Charter, and the sovereignty of states.

He underscored the need to halt the war on Iran and return immediately to diplomatic dialogue. He also emphasized the importance of focusing international and regional efforts on stopping the aggression on Gaza, lifting the inhumane siege, and ending illegal Israeli actions in the occupied West Bank, which undermine the two-state solution and all prospects for a just and comprehensive peace.

Safadi and his counterparts agreed that there can be no military solution to the region’s crises and stressed the need for restraint and re-engagement in diplomatic talks to prevent further deterioration and safeguard regional and international peace and security.
