7/ Inbound Container Traffic at Aqaba Rises Sharply in First Five Months of 2025
Amman, June 4 (Petra) -- The number of inbound containers passing through the Aqaba Container Terminal rose significantly in the first five months of 2025, driven by increased regional trade and transit shipments, according to data released by the Jordan Logistics Association. The data shows that 194,868 loaded containers arrived at the terminal from January through May, a 22% increase compared to 159,739 containers in the same period of 2024. Outbound traffic also rose, with 43,164 containers exported during the five-month period, up 9.5% from 39,394 a year earlier. The month of May alone accounted for a substantial share of the growth, with 45,698 inbound containers recorded up 20.5% from 37,896 in May 2024 marking the highest monthly volume so far this year. Outbound container traffic for the same month saw a slight decline of 1%, reaching 9,589 containers compared to 9,630 in May last year. Jordan Logistics Association President Nabil Al-Khatib described the uptick in inbound volume as a positive indicator for port activity. "Last month recorded the highest number of incoming containers since the beginning of the year. This reflects renewed activity at the terminal and a stronger trade environment," he told the Jordan News Agency (Petra). Al-Khatib attributed the increase to a combination of factors, including rising volumes of transit goods destined for Syria and the use of containers for shipping used vehicles, particularly when roll-on/roll-off vessel capacity is limited. He added that the revival in maritime activity at the terminal is likely to support broader economic growth, especially in the transport sector, which he described as a key driver of commercial activity. Founded in 2007, the Jordan Logistics Association serves as the representative body for freight forwarding professionals in the country. The association works to create a competitive business environment, safeguard the interests of freight brokers, and modernize logistics services. It is also a member of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA), a non-governmental organization established in Vienna in 1926. //Petra// RZ
